I’M OBSESSED WITH …EPSOM SALT !
Did you know that in Menopause Epsom salt is even more beneficial and works wonders in a number of ways!
Epsom salt, is not really a salt at all but a mineral compound comprised of magnesium and sulfate, gets its named from a saline spring at Epsom in Surrey, England. Cool, huh!
Loaded with Magnesium sulfate, it is a menopausal girl’s best friend to conquer sleepless nights, mood swings and anxiety.
Other great benefits of Epsom salt are:
- Reduce inflammation
- Alleviates hardening of the arteries
- Improves muscle and nerve function
- Sulfates help nutrient absorption rate
- Flush out toxins
Epsom salt has been used for centuries as a natural remedy for a number of ailments, and also has many beauty, gardening and household uses.
Here are a few of my favorites and how I use it that I hope you will love as much as I do!
1- Draw out toxins and reduce swelling
We know that toxins are all around us….
- In the foods we eat
- Air that we breathe
- Water we drink
- Beauty products we put on our body
So, Detox with an Epsom salt bath…..
It is a wonderful way to draw toxins out of your body. Here’s how to do it >>>
Mix 1-2 cups of Epsom salts in a warm bath and mix to dissolve in water.
Soak in a bath for 10-15 minutes and the calm will take you over!
P.S. It is also a great way to reduce swelling. (You know… like when you sprain your ankle).
2- Softens hands & feet
In menopause your skin becomes dry and crepey.
So I find that soaking my feet and hands in Epsom salts is a healthy way to soothe my dry, rough skin.
As an added bonus …..It also calms aching finger joints in hands and kills any foot fungus or odor. Wow!
Just add 1/4 cup of Epsom salts to a large bowl or tub of warm water. Soak hands or feet in mixture for 5-10 minutes.
3- Relieve constipation
Here’s a good one – During menopause bouts of constipation can strike when you least expect them.
I love to do a liver cleanse with Epsom salts but if that’s to much for you to get your arms around >>>
Try this easy to do version
Mix 2 teaspoons of Epsom salts in a glass of water before bed. Drink entire cup for best results. If you don’t like the taste, try mixing with fresh juice instead.
4- Exfoliate!
As we age the buildup of dead skin cells clogs pores and can cause blemishes.
Exfoliation is necessary to keep skin healthy, glowing and vibrant.
The best way I use Epsom salts to exfoliate is to massage handfuls all over the body in the shower or bath. Your skin will feel renewed and fresh with this homemade spa treatment.
5- Hair conditioner
Epsom salts make a great deep conditioner to add volume and remove grease from your hair.
I combine equal parts of organic hair conditioner and Epsom salts and apply liberally to hair, add a shower cap and let sit for 20 minutes, then rinse clean.
Your hair will feel smooth and silky!
The benefits of Epsom Salt are endless and you will not be sorry once you try it…You will feel the benefits right away.
These are just a few of the many ways I keep my menopausal health under control.
